To fix this go to the location of the "conviction_game.exe" file, go to properties and then to Compatibility and select "run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 7 (select windows 7)".
After pressing the Play button either from uplay or steam an error is received indicating that the application is not compatible with the operating system (I am using Windows 8,1 圆4). When you click the Play button from the steam dashboard you are provided with a game key, this game key needs to be registered on Uplay. i have purchased it on steam and downloaded it, installed the DirectX version from the game's redist file (the location of the file and game my depend on user's choice as you can install the game wherever you want.
